Suzie Wiley is running for mayor of Decatur.

For more than 20 years, Wiley has owned WYAM 51 in Decatur. She's no stranger to the inner workings of the city—in fact, she now sits on the city's personnel board. She says she helped make "Adventure Park" and "the Decatur small and large dog park" happen.

Wiley tells Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é she likes getting things done and listening to people's concerns.

“I see things that need to be done, because all of you out there. You are the consumer. You're the boss,†said Wiley.

“If I become mayor of Decatur, I can start work the first day," Wiley went on. "I know all the directors. I’ve worked with most of the people. I’ve sat on a zillion committees. There's like three pages on my resume of just what I've done in Decatur. I'm ready to go, I don't need a two-year learning lesson.â€

Wiley is the fourth person to publicly state they want to be the next mayor of Decatur. The other three are Kent Lawrence, Justin Weil, and Butch Matthews.

Wiley already has plans on what she would do as mayor of Decatur. She says her focus is on people. She says she wants to hear from you. And your ideas on making Decatur a better place.

"Yeah, everybody tells you they want to hear from you, but I'm going to do a forum once a month," added Wiley. "For an hour, you can come to the forum and give us your ideas.â€

She says safer roads is one of her priorities. “I'm going to work with the city council to get more money spent on repaving our roads."

Wiley wants to get someone into city hall who can man the phones and help people get connected to the right person. “I'm also going to work with the city council to get a live operator - an operator that is going to answer the phone and say the city of Decatur and transfer you to the right department.â€

The Decatur mayoral race is nearly a year away and is set for August 2025. Candidates cannot even put their names officially into the hat until April, but Wiley says she’s eager to let people know she plans to run and looks forward to officially filling out the paperwork come April.
