Thursday outlook

This afternoon will remain dry during the day with increasing clouds and highs in the upper 50s and low 60s. We look to stay dry through the evening so the Christmas parades happening this evening look dry.

Widespread rain is expected to move across North Alabama Thursday during the overnight hours and through Friday morning. Along with the wet weather, wind gusts up to 35 mph will be possible so bring in the Christmas decorations. A few rumbles of thunder are possible but no severe weather is expected. This round of rain should come to an end by midday Friday.

The next wave of rain will arrive late Friday and will stick around through Saturday afternoon. It could be heavy at times but once again we are not expecting severe weather. These showers will likely clear out Saturday night.

When it's all said and done, rain totals over the next several days will range from 1-1.5" for Sand Mountain to 0.5-0.75" around the Shoals. Huntsville can expect close to 1".

High temperatures Friday through early next week will be in the low to mid 60s. A brief cool down to the 50s is expected for the middle of next week.

TODAY: Partly cloudy. Warmer. Highs in the low 60s. Wind: S 5-10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Rain moves in. Lows in the mid 40s. Wind: SE 10-15 MPH.
