The Barnett's dog Lady

A family in Russellville is looking for answers after their dog was shot just yards away from their home.

The Barnett family says their lab, Lady, was shot in her leg on New Year's Eve.

“I didn’t realize how bad it was until I saw my sister crying,†Cole Barnett said. “I could just see her poor little leg dangling and my stomach dropped.â€Â

Lady is alive, but the gunshot shattered her leg, which caused her to lose more than half of her blood.

The vet had no choice but to amputate Lady’s leg to save her life.

Lady is less than a year old and will now spend the rest of her life with only three legs.

“We’re thankful that she’s okay, but she used to be the most exciting and playful and she was so fast,†Barnett continued. “She could fly, and she won’t be able to run that fast anymore.â€

Barnett's mother, Brandi, says the vet believes the gun used to shoot Lady was most likely a high powered rifle.

Lady is still a puppy and her owners say she is not aggressive.

“There’s no way she was hurting anybody,†Barnett said.

Barnett has no idea why someone would do something like this, especially around the holidays.

Despite Lady undergoing an extensive surgery, Barnett says she’s in good spirits.

“She’s stitched up and you know it’s sad to see her tripoded but she’s doing good,†Barnett continued. “She still wags her tail and smiles.â€

Barnett says their family filed a police report, but as for who did this, he has no idea.

Barnett says he is offering a cash reward to anybody who can offer as to who shot his dog.

If you have any information about this incident, you can call the Russellville Police Department directly.
