The Ider Police Department has announced a free car seat program to help local underprivileged families protect their kids on the road.
The police department says officers have encountered many families struggling to get by, including the ability to afford car seats, during traffic stops. Police say two families have now received free car seats from them instead of being ticketed.
This program is solely funded by donations from officers, Town Council, and community members. It is not funded through taxpayer money.
If you would like to support this program, please come by Ider Town Hall with a car seat or monetary donation to help.
Police say the last thing they want is a child to be injured due to financial constraints of a family member or guardian. As of Tuesday morning, they have six car seats ready for donation.
The police chief reminds the public there will be more need than they can provide for. However, the chief says Ider is committed to providing the most they can out of their own personal resources to support everyone in need.

Please email Iderchief@farmerstel.com with the following:
1. Name.
2. Current address.
3. Child’s name, Date of birth, and weight.
4. Relationship to the child receiving the car seat.
5. A brief summary on the circumstances of the situation.(This will help us determine who is a higher candidate due to limited resources).
All applications will remain private.
