Light, brief rain showers will be possible this evening as a cold front pushes across North Alabama. Skies will then clear out later tonight, allowing temperatures to drop to the low 30s.

Thursday will start mostly sunny before clouds build in the afternoon. Highs will only be in the mid to upper 40s. Spotty wintry mix showers will be possible Thursday night into Friday morning, but these should be so light that it has no impact on travelers.

Slightly heavier, more widespread precipitation is expected Friday afternoon and evening. With air temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s, this may fall as a rain/snow mix. Snow accumulation is not expected for most of North Alabama. The mountains of Northeast Alabama will be slightly colder, and therefore have a chance at less than 1" of snow accumulation mainly on the grass and elevated surfaces. Road conditions should remain in good shape throughout this event, but visibility may be reduced at times as the snow falls.

The New Year's holiday weekend will start dry on Saturday and Sunday. Those celebrating the New Year on Sunday night can expect dry conditions and temperatures in the 40s. A cold front may spark rain showers on New Year's Day morning.

TONIGHT: Isolated evening rain showers. Chance of rain: 30%. Lows in the low 30s. Wind: W 5-10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Morning sun, increasing PM clouds. Spotty wintry mix late. Chance of precipitation: 20%. Highs in the mid 40s. Wind: W 6-12 MPH.
