A Morgan County Jury handed down a sentence of life in prison without parole for the man convicted in the '7 Deadly Sins' capital murder trial.

A Morgan County Jury handed down a sentence of life in prison without parole for the man convicted in the '7 Deadly Sins' capital murder trial.

After a four-week trial, and two days of jury deliberations, Frederic Rogers was sentenced to life in prison without parole for his role in the murder of seven people back in 2020.

The decision came down to ten jurors for life in prison and two for the death penalty.

“I think this case was tried fairly by both sides, the defense and the prosecution, and that’s really all we can ask in any case,†said Morgan County Chief Assistant District Attorney Garrick Vickery.

Although the state disagreed with the jury's decision, Rogers will live out the rest of his days behind bars.

Rogers's mother gave a large exhale in the courtroom when the verdict came in. “I’m relieved. Relieved and sad. Bittersweet because I’ll still never get another birthday or a holiday or anything like that with my son,†said Tasha Thompson.

Members of the victims' families in the courtroom on Wednesday declined to speak with Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é News. The defense said despite the sentencing going their way, there's no winners on either side of this case.

“It’s hard. There was really no right or wrong answer there. You’ve got families and victims from that house that are hurting and continue to hurt, so it’s just tough,†said Brent Burney.

“There was never going to be a life sentence, or a 30-year sentence, and certainly not an acquittal,†said Carl Cole. “Life without parole was the best possible outcome.â€

While Rogers’s mother is thankful for her son's escape of death, she says she feels for the families of the seven victims.

“My condolences and my heart goes out to those families, and I wish that this never happened. And I know my son wishes he could take it back, but he can’t,†said Thompson. “I pray for you guys everyday and I will continue to pray for you everyday.â€

As far as when John Legg will go to trial for his role in the Morgan County murders, the state says it’s tentatively set for early next year.
