Drought conditions led to a disaster declaration for nine North Alabama counties Tuesday.

The U.S. Agriculture Department designated Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Madison, Marshall and Morgan counties as primary natural disaster areas.

The declaration makes farmers in those counties eligible to be considered for Farm Service Agency Emergency Loan assistance.
