State party leaders respond to President Biden's decision to drop out of 2024 election

A shocking announcement out of the White House. President Joe Biden ended his presidential campaign and local state party leaders are responding.

Some democrats say if Vice President Kamala Harris does run, they think she will win. However, some Republicans say they think Former President Donald Trump will beat Harris in November and become the next president.

Dr. Randy Kelley is chairman of Alabama's Democratic Party. He says Biden laid out the foundation for Harris to take over.

"It is not a time to be de-moralized," Kelley explained. "It's a time to be re-energized."

That's a message Kelley wants Democratic voters to hear as he's confident Harris has what it takes to be the next president.

"She's dealing with women issues," Kelley continued. "She has met with more heads of state of foreign countries than any other president in the history of America."

Those are just two of the reasons why Kelley says Harris would be a stand-out choice this November.

Yet, State Republican GOP Chairman John Wahl is not convinced.

"I think Donald Trump will win," Wahl explained. "The American people are looking for a leader who will stand up for them, and talk about the issues and fight for their rights and freedom, and Donald Trump is that candidate."

He says Biden's decision to drop out of the presidential race did not surprise him, but instead, disappointed him.

"I think it's a bad trend," Wahl said. "I think it's a bad idea for the Democratic Party, and I think it's a mistake both politically, but more importantly, disrespectful to voters across America and to the Democratic process."

As far as Biden's ability to finish out his time as president, Wahl says he does not think that's in America's best interest.

"He's been in this condition for years, and if you want to say that he's unfit to run, then he's been unfit to serve," Wahl said.

Reverend Kelley says the Democratic National Committee met on Zoom Sunday. He says they talked about next steps and how to properly nominate a new candidate.

Wahl says regardless of who faces up against Donald Trump this November, he says the American people will have the final say.
